Many organizations handle their website like this. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the worst thing that you can do. For a site to be successful it must do one thing. Bring in visitors. Without visitors there is no need for one .
To keep visitors returning, fresh new content is needed and that means frequent maintenance. Just like a house or car, without consistent maintenance, it will eventually cease to serve its purpose. You might think you don’t have anything to add to your site that often, but you would be surprised what you have to offer your customers and visitors.
Make your site the center of your customer communication. Some examples:
- Publish special offers and discounts
- Add a Calendar of special events or sales
- Add Pictures and video
- Write articles about your market, answers to questions your customers have asked, or review problems solved. Make a list of things you think your customers would WANT and NEED to know. Ask your customers for input.
- Link to other sites of interest to your customers.
- Engage in the conversation. Encourage your customers to comment on your articles (does your website have the capability for your visitors to comment on the content?)
Use your imagination to provide your visitors a reason to sign up for updates or just return to your site to see what’s new. You have a world of experience in your field that your visitors will come back again and again to hear what you have to say. Share a portion of your expertise in a fresh and interesting way and your website will produce visitors and visitors mean customers.
Just remember…. Your site is never a finished product, but a tool to communicate with your audience. Let your content drive your traffic.
